You get a 360 degree 3D file

The two eyes are stacked above each other rather than side by side. That is not a detail: a 360 image is already twice as wide as it is tall, and putting two of those next to each other gives a shape most players cannot decode. Stacked keeps it square, and it is also what YouTube 360 3D expects.

How you watch it

  1. Put on your Quest and open the browser.
  2. Go to xclusivevr.com/watch and type your 6-character code.
  3. Press "Enter VR".
  4. Look around. The depth follows wherever you turn.

You can also upload the file to YouTube, which reads the same 360 metadata. Upload it exactly as you received it: re-encoding strips that metadata out, and then it plays as one flat, stretched picture.

What your source video needs

A real 360 recording. We check the shape of the file, because a true 360 video is exactly twice as wide as it is tall. The stitched export from an Insta360, a GoPro Max or a Ricoh Theta is already the right shape. We cannot turn a normal video into a 360 one, because the rest of the sphere was never in front of a lens.

Questions people ask

My 360 camera has two lenses. Is that not already 3D?

No, and this surprises most people. The two lenses point in opposite directions and each cover half the world. They never look at the same thing from two slightly different positions, and that is the one thing that creates depth. Two lenses, but one viewpoint.

Do I have to pick 360 somewhere?

No. We recognise a 360 file by its shape when you upload it and convert it accordingly. If you would rather have a normal 3D conversion of that same file, you can say so on the upload page.

Which resolution should I shoot?

The highest your camera has. A 360 video spreads its pixels over everything around you while you only ever look at a slice, so resolution matters a good deal more here than it does for flat video.
